For a customer specialising in door construction and drive technology, what began as a supply bottleneck ended up as an idea that came to fruition with the help of mobil Kunststoffprofile. The existing guide profile was comprehensively optimised thanks to the engineering expertise and material know-how of mobil Kunststoffprofile. Both in terms of the profile geometry and the choice of materials. The result: easier assembly, a longer service life and lower overall costs.
In door and gate constructions, the profile guides the drive chain for opening and closing. In order for this to happen seamlessly and free of any “rattling”, the tolerances are necessarily low. The installation of the original guide profile proved to be time-consuming. The same profile was installed back-to-front in two different aluminium profiles. But when the same profile material was no longer available and the tool needed to be adapted, action had to be taken.
mobil Kunststoffprofile created a specific proposal based on the analysis of the installation and the material requirements i.e. as little wear as possible and a high resistance to lubricants. Using 3D rapid prototyping, the optimised geometry design underwent functional testing with the customer. Once this sample was released, the development of the actual extrusion tool followed. The profile itself is made of HDPE, which is a very tough and abrasion-resistant material.
Simplified assembly
After optimisation, only one profile is installed, which saves time and relieves the strain on the assembly team.
Long service life
The switch to HDPE has increased the service life thanks to less abrasion and a better resistance to lubricants.
Lower overall costs
Halving the assembly costs significantly reduces the system costs.
