Seals not only absorb sound and air but are also an important element in fire protection. Together with a leading door manufacturer, mobil Kunststoffprofile has developed a function-integrated sealing system that significantly reduces assembly time and at the same time comprehensively fulfils the customer’s fire protection requirements.
Until now, when installing wooden doors, the customer would first install the seal in the frame and then apply a fire protection strip made of intumescent material. Both components were transported separately, unpacked, cut to size and assembled on site at the customer’s premises. The time and costs involved for the customer were significant and needed to be reduced.
The real challenge in this task was to create a resistant and continuous joint between two materials that have different processing temperatures. mobil Kunststoffprofile’s in-depth knowledge of materials and its expertise in process engineering led to the development of a functionally integrated overall solution through coextrusion. “Fireblock”, a new intumescent material developed by mobil Kunststoffprofile and optimised for fire protection, was used. The jointly developed solution has proven its sustainability by passing the fire protection tests and has been successfully used for the last several years.
Reduced assembly time
The assembly time per door is reduced from 15 to 5 minutes (66% saving) – a significant cost reduction for the customer, who installs thousands of doors per year.
Lean procurement and logistics
The customer's purchasing and scheduling departments now only have to manage one component.
Successful fire protection approval
The customised solution complies with DIN EN 13051 and classification EI30.
Optimised packaging
Predefined lengths are packed separately and optimally for transport to the construction site. The fitter removes the required seals from the resealable packaging.
